Yakima County Credit Unions is a non-profit organization that works to promote Credit Unions as a financial alternative for the banking needs of the people in our communities ranging from Ellensburg to Yakima and as far south as Sunnyside. This organization is comprised of eight local area credit unions: Calcoe Federal Credit Union, Catholic Credit Union, Community 1st Credit Union, Lower Valley Credit Union, State Highway District 5 Credit Union, WSECU (Washington State Employees Credit Union), Yakima Community Federal Credit Union, and Yakima Valley Credit Union. Besides offering competitive financial services, Yakima County Credit Unions take part in community projects, and believe in giving back to the communities we live in. Several years ago, when funding for the annual Yakima 4th of July Celebration became challenged, it was the Yakima County Credit Unions who stepped in with a sizable donation so that this exciting family event could continue to take place. For many years the Credit Unions have assisted the Central Washington State Fair by being the designated sites to purchase discount fair admission tickets up and down the valley. In more recent years, the Credit Unions have agreed to also sell other fair ticket offerings such as discount carnival ride ticket books and family packs. Pre-selling fair tickets helps the public by allowing them to purchase discount tickets in advance and helps to minimize the entrance lines at the gate, by allowing those who have purchased these tickets to bypass the ticket booth. Recognizing that there are many families that do not have the ability to provide school supplies for their children each fall, Yakima County Credit Unions organizes a program to help. The credit unions purchase basic school supplies and assemble 1,000 folders with these supplies. The folders are then donated to the Yakima and Sunnyside School Districts, to help assist needy families so that their children can begin the school year with a positive start. Each of the eight credit unions that comprise the Yakima Community Credit Unions is a great financial alternative to any commercial bank. The next time you have the need for financial services, use one of the Credit Unions listed below. You’ll be glad you did!
